Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic (root canal treatment) helps to save a tooth with infected pulp tissue caused by decay, gum disease or trauma. In the old days, the tooth would have been extracted. This treatment removes infected nerves and tissues in the canal, is cleansed and disinfected then the tooth is filled and sealed. A post-crown is added for protection.

Root Canal Treatment
The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes:
- Deep decay
- Repeated dental procedures on the tooth, or a crack or chip in the tooth.
In addition, an injury to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess. Endodontic treatment conserves dead or infected teeth that will otherwise be extracted.

- Diseased tooth with an abscess.
- The dentist accesses the tooth pulp/nerve.
- The root canals inside the tooth are cleaned and shaped.
- The root canals are filled and sealed.
